According to officials at the Everest Metro Police, the incident began in northern Wisconsin with a domestic dispute in a bank in Rothschild and then carried on from there. Police Chief Wally Sparks said that an officer from his department had died in the shootings and that three – so far unnamed – people have also died. Sparks did not name the deceased officer. Explaining that they currently have the suspect in custody, Sparks said at a news conference that there was no longer a threat to the public.

According to police, the Shooting incidents occurred at a bank, an apartment complex and a law firm in various locations in the area. Reportedly a SWAT team and other officers were in a standoff with the shooting suspect for some time before it ended in repeated gunfire at around 5 p.m.

Three different locations in multiple shooting incident

The first shooting occurred at the Marathon Savings Bank, located in Rothschild, at around 12:30. When officers responded to the scene of what was described as a domestic situation, they found two people had been shot. The next call came around 10 minutes later from a law firm in Schofield, while a third incident was reported at approximately 1:30 p.m.

from a Weston apartment complex. The Wausau Daily Herald reports that at around 2:30 p.m., SWAT team members entered the apartment building, while a hospital and nearby schools went into lockdown.

According to the Associated Press, Kelly Hanson, 21, who lives in the apartment complex involved in the shooting incident, saw a police car drive up at around 1:15 p.m. Shortly after this, she heard gunfire and saw the police officer fall. She then saw other police officers placing the man in a SWAT vehicle and driving him away. According to Hanson, she stayed in her apartment and at around 4:45 p.m. she heard around 10 other shots being fired. She said she “freaked out” at the time, but authorities did let her leave her apartment once everything was safe.

According to Jason Smith of the Division of Criminal Investigation, there are more than 100 officers involved in the investigation of the Wisconsin shooting incidents. The deputy administrator said more information will be released about the incidents on Thursday.
