According to the Lockhart school district, Sarah Madden Fowlkes, 27, had worked with them since 2014. However, Fowlkes was suspended from her job after allegations that she had been having an inappropriate relationship with one of her students, a 17-year-old boy. As reported by the Sacramento Bee, this led to the teacher’s arrest.

Texas teacher hands herself in to police following allegations

The teacher reportedly turned herself in to the Lockhart Police on Monday, where Fowlkes has been charged with a second-degree felony – that of having an improper relationship with a student – and had her mugshot taken.

Now the media and social media are both astounded by the fact that Fowlkes gave such a winning, bright smile in the photo, which the Sacramento Bee says looks more like a social media profile photo than a mugshot.

School district learned of the Texas teacher’s conduct just before spring break

As reported by Fox News, the school district became aware of the relationship on March 10, shortly prior to spring break, and they immediately alerted the Lockhart police along with Child Protective Services. According to Superintendent Susan Bohn, parents entrust their children to the school every day and this kind of behavior is not tolerated. Reportedly Bohn sent out emails to parents of students at Lockhart High to notify them that Fowlkes had been arrested for inappropriate sexual conduct with a student and had been suspended from her employment at the school.

The superintendent further asked parents to discuss the issue with their children and said that if anyone had further information relating to the situation, they should immediately contact the Lockhart Police Department. She added that counselors are available at the school, should any student need any form of support.

According to a web page that has since, reportedly, been deleted from the school district’s website Fowlkes hails from Dripping Springs and was teaching anatomy, physiology and environmental systems at the school.
