As new information continues to break involving Donald Trump's administration and their contact with Russia, the president has been backed into a corner. With the pressure piling on, Trump has decided to come to the defense of one of his favorite cabinet selections.

Trump on Twitter

On Wednesday night, the Washington Post uncovered that Attorney General Jeff Sessions had at least two private meetings with a major Russian official.

The news comes just weeks after retired Gen. Michael Flynn was forced to resign from his position as National Security Adviser due to his contact with the Kremlin. As expected, Sessions has denied any wronging, which was backed up by the White House via a statement, and from press secretary Sean Spicer in an interview with Fox News on Thursday morning. Despite this, Donald Trump returned to Twitter on March 2 and gave his thoughts about the controversy surrounding Sessions and Russia.

"Jeff Sessions is an honest man. He did not say anything wrong. He could have stated his response more accurately, but it was clearly not intentional," Donald Trump wrote on Twitter Thursday night.

"This whole narrative is a way of saving face for Democrats losing an election that everyone thought they were supposed to win," Trump continued, before adding, "The Democrats are overplaying their hand. They lost the election, and now they have lost their grip on reality."

Not stopping there, the former host of "The Apprentice" then continued his attack on the Democrats, referring to the allegations against Jeff Sessions as a "witch hunt." "The real story is all of the illegal leaks of classified and other information," the president tweeted, while concluding, "It is a total 'witch hunt!'"

Moving forward

The issue of Donald Trump and his relationship with Russia dates back to the start of his campaign for president.

Despite constantly denying a connection between himself and the Russians, the media has continued to release information about Trump that contradicts with the offical White House narrative, with the president labeling the leaks as "fake news."
