milo yiannopoulos has announced that he's resigning as Senior Editor of Breitbart News after an older video of him allegedly defending pedophilia resurfaced online. The outspoken journalist says that the decision to leave the publication is his own and that he was grateful for both the opportunity to write there and for the friendships he's made along the way.
Milo also clarified his views on pedophilia and wanted to be "clear" that he feels that it is not something that he supports at all.
What was said in those videos?
Milo Yiannopoulos was filmed last year talking about pedophilia and he seemed to defend sexual acts toward children based on his word choices and the "jokes" he made.
The videos started getting passed around this weekend and it didn't take long for the British journalist to step down from his role at Breitbart despite trying to defend his words saying that it was merely his "dry British sarcasm and penchant for provocation" that caused a complete misunderstanding. He went on to say that he finds pedophilia "vile and disgusting."
His resignation statement, in part
Milo Yiannopoulos said that he feels that resigning from Breitbart News is the right thing to do.
"When your friends have done right by you, you do right by them. For me, now, that means stepping aside so my colleagues at Breitbart can get back to the great work they do," he said.
Milo's decision to leave the publication came on the heels of more bad news resulting from these videos.
Publisher Simon & Schuster decided to stop the publication of Milo's book, "Dangerous," which was set to be released this coming June. He recently inked a deal for a quarter of a million dollars for the book, which has now been pulled.
Will Milo Yiannopoulos disappear from mainstream media?
Although Breitbart News gave him a platform to express his political views, Milo Yiannopoulos will likely find another outlet for his opinions. Although he has chosen to leave his post, he has still become a prominent voice in the media world when it comes to politics. He'll be back. Just wait and see.
