The corridors of power in the White House and the United States are agog with rumors. As a follow-up to the rumors, the office of Trump's lawyer Micheal Cohen was raided by the FBI. It should not be forgotten Trump is the president of the United States and a raid on his lawyer is something that sends a wrong signal to the world. The very fact the FBI has raided the office and also seized some documents regarding payments made to Stormy Daniels shows that in America nobody is above the law. Time magazine has reported that Cohen a 51-year-old lawyer was a man who was a confidant of the president and probably handled all the payments to Stormy Daniels.

Trump is incensed by the raid and seething with anger.

Trump under siege

The "Russian connection" is also alive and kicking as far as Donald Trump is concerned and the president cannot be a happy man. Trump may feel under siege and in his present state of mind could sack the chief prosecutor Mueller, though he is not directly concerned with this raid. He has been cautioned against it, but the fact remains that many in America and the world feel that if a presidents lawyer can be raided for some underhand payments to Stormy Daniels than there may also be something in the allegation that Russia played a significant part in the victory of Trump in the 2016 election.

Witch hunt

Close to one and half years have elapsed since Donald Trump was sworn in as the President of the United States.During this period the allegations of a "Russian connection" have not died away.

Every day something new comes up. Trump was probably aware of the raid on Cohen, but despite being the president of the United States, he could not stop FBI from carrying out search and seizure. To a man like Donald Trump, this is like a double slap. He has termed it a "witch hunt."

There is no precedent in American history after World war II of such an action against a man who is the lawyer of the president.

Trump is now fighting for his Presidency. The stakes are high. The president has already terminated or dismissed many persons who did not tow his line of thought. There is no doubt that at some stage he will have to do something decisive.

Trump may act

Trump has already termed the raid by the FBI as "disgraceful." Probably he never expected that the Stormy Daniels case would be raked up.

The raid by the FBI which would have had the approval of the justice department and that includes Jeff Sessions would not be liked by Trump. This raid has brought his credibility to the bottom. One wonders if at some stage even Jeff Sessions may be shown the door.
