American travelers flying to the Caribbean nation of Dominican Republic will soon experience an outdoor swimming pool. The Punta Cana International Airport is adding a new feature for their VIP guests to try, Food And Wine reported.
This airport handles more than 1.5 million travelers who fly from the United States to the small nation, adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean. This group is part of the six million passengers it accommodates this year, as one of the fastest growing international airports in the region, the report added.
The number of passengers flying in and out of the country has reportedly doubled since 2005.
It is the main airport for those visiting the Caribbean nation, offering direct flights from almost 30 countries and 100 cities worldwide.
This December, an outdoor swimming pool will be added to its open-air terminals, and traditional Dominican architecture which it has been known for, the website also noted.
Policies for U.S. travelers
The airport at the Dominican Republic also has rolled out new rules for U.S. travelers. These guests are required to go through the pre-clearance procedure before boarding their flights back to the United States. Managed by the United States Customs and Border Protection, the procedure reportedly includes agriculture checkpoints, immigration processing, and customs according to Food and Wine.
The same rule applies to other airports around the world. These airports include those in countries such as Aruba, the Bahamas, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Ireland, and Bermuda.
VIP swimming pool
Dominican architect Antonio Segundo Imbert designed the new VIP lounge, where the swimming pool is located. It is a unique way for the airport’s guests to spend some time wading in the pool while waiting for boarding or for their next flight.
Whether they are flying with their families, or they are traveling as a couple, the outdoor pool is a perfect spot for them to enjoy their vacation.
The Punta Cana International Airport has two VIP lounges, each located in Terminal A and Terminal B. Participating airlines are given the opportunity to have the swimming pool experience as part of their packages, Food and Wine added.
The lounge will also be made available for Priority Pass members, and those who purchase the package with a stay at the lounge. It is expected to open for the VIP travelers to try in December 2017. The report said the rules inside the new lounge, and the price list has not yet been officially announced.
