Renowned fashion designer Alexander Wang presented his latest collection at the New York Fashion Week in a unique way. Despite all the spectacle, critics were unhappy about how his show turned out.

The 33-year-old designer and former director of fashion label Balenciaga used the streets of Brooklyn in his glamorous outdoor-style fashion show. This Spring 2018 collection was generally a series of dark-toned apparel and ready-to-wear outfits.

For some who attended Alexander Wang’s show, it was a big failure as some critics were disappointed in the show headlined by one of New York’s top designers.

A tweet from style journalist Christina Brinkley said, “Would have been best to just throw a party, not pretend there was a fashion collection.”

Celebrities in Wang’s show

A line-up of top celebrities graced the runway of Wang’s show. Some of them included Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner and Cardi B, Vogue reported. The show also featured other big names in the industry such as Nicola Peltz, Anwar Hadid, Vince Staples and Ashanti.

Fashion blogger Bryanboy also did not like how the event was organized. He tweeted, “Raise your hands if you’re part of free press who never thought they’d wish they went to a Plein instead of Wang.” He wrote hashtags saying that the event was “a huge mistake.”

The designer

Relatively a younger designer compared to the more established names, Alexander Wang is a native Californian who whisked his way to New York City to make a name in the industry.

His profile from his website said he launched his first women’s collection in 2007 which then was sold to over 200 stores.

Following this debut, Wang has won several awards hailing him as one of the best designers in the fashion world. In 2010, he launched his menswear collection. He now has a flagship store in the SoHo District in New York City which was launched in 2011, his profile noted.

His New York Fashion Week stint was literally a big night. Vogue reported that the show started with all the models and celebrities riding a party bus, and unloading the bus to start walking on the makeshift runway along the streets of Brooklyn.

His Spring 2018 collection was perfect for the nightlife as the models showcased feathered head dresses and crystal designs that emblazoned words such as “party animal” and “Wangover.” The New York Fashion Week had a successful run from September 7 to September 13.

It will be back in February 2018 for the Fall/Winter 2018 collection.
