It was a FaceTime chat which brought two of the most notable personalities together to share their thoughts regarding Mental illness. When the Queen of Pop Lady Gaga and the Duke of Cambridge Prince William, sat down for a talk concerning post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental illnesses, it was definitely something worth watching. On Tuesday, April 18, the video showing the conversation between Lady Gaga and Prince William was posted to YouTube by Heads Together.
PTSD not a taboo subject
The conversation started on a positive note with the two greeting each other.
Lady Gaga was seen praising William for his active support towards the Heads Together campaign. She expressed her views on PTSD and cited her own example. She shared that she went through PTSD after being sexually assaulted at the age of 19. William mentioned reading the singer’s open letter in December, which revealed that she had undergone treatment for PTSD. "Waking up every day and feeling sad and going on stage is something that is very hard to describe. There's a lot of shame attached to mental illness. You feel like something's wrong with you,” revealed the singer.
Lady Gaga added that although successful, she was not in a happy space. She was full of anxiety and was unable to control the emotion.
However, she came to terms with the fact soon and with acceptance, there was a relief. William mentioned that much of the charity work he does, such as tackling homelessness, addictions, and more also have a link with mental illness. He shared that mental illness is more common than thought. William noted that the subject should not be taboo and most issues surrounding mental illness can be resolved when shared with loved ones.
The Prince was seen talking from his study, whereas Lady Gaga was chatting from her kitchen and had a cup of coffee in her hand. At the end of the conversation, he invited the pop star for a one-on-one during her visit to Britain. Since William was the one conducting the interview, the interaction was more about the singer.
