Epic Games has improved the competitive play in "Fortnite Battle Royale" by adding the Arena mode. This mode uses skill-based matchmaking to create fair lobbies for everyone and it is also used to qualify players for the Fortnite World Cup. For each elimination and high placement, players earn Hype and the amount of Hype determines the division players are put in. Players in the highest division have a chance to earn valuable cash prizes as well as to make it to the biggest "Fortnite" tournament later this year.

At the moment, the Area mode consists of only two playlists as players are able to play competitively alone or with one friend.

However, data miners have found some files which indicate that the Trio and Squads playlists will be added to this competitive mode as well. Considering that the mode is different from the regular modes in many different ways, this will be a great addition to the game.

More competitive modes

Squads mode is one of the favorite modes of many "Fortnite Battle Royale" players, but unfortunately, it is not available for any competitive mode. If players want to join the competitive play and advance through different divisions, they can do it with only one friend or alone. However, data miners have received the data which shows that the Arena Squads mode will soon be added to the game.

In addition to this, players will be able to team up with just two of their friends for the competitive Trio playlist.

It is important to note that the Arena mode cannot be played in solo duos since there have to be two players to play it. This will most likely stay the same for the Arena Squads mode, which means there will have to be four players in a squad in order to queue up for the game.

If there are only three players in a squad, they will be able to play the Arena Trios mode, which was the second mode that was found by data miners.

Adding these two new modes will allow "Fortnite Battle Royale" players to participate in the competitive play with any team size, from one to four players. Considering that Epic Games has recently enabled 16-player squads in the game, it will be interesting if we get more game modes that can be played with more than four players on a team.

Release date

At the moment, it is unknown when the "Fortnite Battle Royale" developer will release these two new competitive modes. However, considering that the Fortnite World Cup qualifiers end on June 16, we could get these modes within a month. It is very unlikely that players will be able to use these modes to qualify for the cup, but they will still be a good addition to the game. After all, the siphon mechanic and skill-based matchmaking are something a lot of players want.
