The latest updates for "Red Dead Redemption 2" reveal new details on the game's massive open-world map. Rockstar Games announced the seven locations within the game's map and each location has a distinct characteristic and tradition that defines its place in the old west.
Rockstar North art director, Aaron Garbut, reveals how deep and expansive "RDR2's" world is and how players can dive into it for hours. The game will be a prequel to the first "Red Dead Redemption" title and players assume the role of Arthur Morgan, a member of the infamous Van der Linde gang as they survive the harsh and cruel life at the frontier
Map locations revealed
According to IGN, there are seven towns located in the huge open-world map of "Red Dead Redemption 2" and each town has its reach history and characteristics.
The first town is called Valentine and Rockstar Games described it as a "raucous, rough-and-tumble" town in the Heartlands. Valentine specializes in livestock auctions that attract all-matter of folk from cowboys and outlaws to traders and gamblers, who looks to earn money and start trouble.
Annesburg is a coal mining town with a dangerous work environment due to the hazardous conditions and low pay rate. The city of Saint Denis is Rockstar's version of New Orleans, and it is a melting pot for culture and people who want to live the good life. However, not everyone can be trusted as thieves, beggars, and corrupt businessmen live side-by-side every day.
Mount Hagen is a major peak that is located in the grizzled mountain range, towering over a huge lake.
Rhodes appears to be a small peaceful town but is often caught in the crossfire between the Braithwaites and the Grays for years. Strawberry is a logging town ruled by an eccentric mayor, who wants to turn it into a "cultural beacon" for wealthy tourists.
The last location is called Lagras, a remote swampland with self-sufficient citizens willing to help out everyone.
A deeper and immersive open-world
According to Gaming Bolt, Aaron Garbut stated that "RDR2's" world will be deeper and immersive that can expand its story even further than the original plot but retains its consistency and connection with Arthur Morgan.
“We’ve always tried to create worlds that feel like places as much as games, and we’ve been able to use the latest technology to push that idea forward in ways we never have before," Garbut told The Hollywood Reporter.
Rockstar confirmed that the game will not have a character swap similar to "Grand Theft Auto 5" as they wanted Arthur to be the center of attention, and this is his life story. The game will launch on October 26 for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles.
