May 2018's Xbox Games With Gold line-up maintains last month's high standard, with Capcom's "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" being added to the service. Hideo Kojima's open-world stealth game might be the biggest name on the roster, but the excitement hardly ends there for Xbox One owners.

Everyone should try 'The Phantom Pain'

"Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" was released in 2015 and received near universal acclaim from critics.

Currently, the Xbox One version sits at an impressive 95 on Metacritic. Taking place in a massive and explorable open-world, players control Punished "Venom" Snake as they free outposts and conclude the character's story.

"Metal Gear Solid" is known for its insane plot and that remains the case with "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain." Newcomers should consider reading up on the events of the previous entries in Capcom's franchise, but Xbox One owners who are already subscribed to Games With Gold should not miss this opportunity to try Hideo Kojima's swan song for the beloved series.

In terms of gameplay, "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" sees the series at the height of its powers.

There are various ways to approach any situation and the gunplay is beyond smooth. The open-world is huge and gorgeous, although there could be more variety in the locations and missions.

"Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" will be added to Xbox Games With Gold on May 16.

Score a home run with 'Super Mega Baseball 2'

Set to be published on the first of next month for the Xbox One, "Super Mega Baseball 2" will be available for Games With Gold subscribers. As an alternative to the realistic "The Show," which is a PlayStation 4 exclusive, "Super Mega Baseball 2" should be enough to satisfy fans of the sport.

Taking a more cartoonish approach, "Super Mega Baseball 2" has expanded greatly on its predecessor's solid foundation.

Xbox One gamers can customize nearly everything in the title, while Metalhead Software overhauled the original's visual presentation, going for a slightly more realistic appearance.

"Super Mega Baseball 2" will be added to Games With Gold on May 1.

'Vanquish' and 'Streets of Rage' are both playable on the Xbox One

Last but surely not least, Sega is allowing the Xbox 360 version of "Streets of Rage," the classic beat 'em up, to be available on Games With Gold. After two weeks, it will be replaced by Platinum Games' "Vanquish." Anyone looking for a fast-paced shooter with an insane storyline should give this a try.

"Streets of Rage" and "Vanquish" will both be playable on the Xbox One.
