"Fortnite," a game developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly has only been released for less than a year. But according to RollingStone, "Fortnite" has already made its way to the top of the charts in the gaming world. The most-viewed game on YouTube used to be "Minecraft," but now "Fortnite" has taken its place.

There's no doubt how popular "Fortnite" is; as even famous rappers, Drake and Travis Scott, were seen playing on a stream with a popular Twitch streamer, Tyler "Ninja" Blevins. Even in this article, it seems like other famous YouTube celebrities are hopping on to the "Fortnite" gaming stream bandwagon.

'Fortnite' tops 'Minecraft' in views

According to RollingStone, "Minecraft" used to have an audience of over 4,500 million viewers a month back in March of 2017.

However, following the release of "Fortnite," "Minecraft" saw a slow decline in viewership and has dropped to almost 1,500 million viewers a month. "Fortnite" saw its viewership skyrocket a few months after its release. As of March 2018, the total number of viewers per month has almost reached 3,000 million.

'Fortnite' sets a new record

In a Tweet by Ryan Watts, the leader of AR/VR and gaming content over at YouTube said the Battle Royale tournament garnered over 42 million live views and even set the record for the biggest single live gaming stream at 1.1 million concurrent viewers.

'Clash Royale' and 'PubG' viewers decline due to 'Fortnite'

However, the rise of "Fortnite's" popularity comes at the cost of other games similar to it.

According to a report by Matchmade, other games such as "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" or "PubG" and "clash royale" have steadily dropped in viewership after the release of "Fortnite."

"Clash Royale," a top mobile game, saw its viewers drop at a steady rate after "Fortnite's" release. The decline may be because the game has been around for quite a while and people are starting to get tired of seeing the same gameplay.

Surprisingly, "PubG" which is considered the predecessor of "Fortnite" and its competitor has lost plenty of viewers ever since its own release back in March of 2017. This article compares the two games in terms of popularity and gameplay, showcasing why "Fortnite" is the more dominant game. That being said, "PubG" lost most of its audience with the release of "Fortnite."

'Fortnite' will continue to grow

What is incredible is the rapid growth "Fortnite" had in a few months; between January and February, the viewership grew 151 percent and their monthly growth in viewers is at +97 percent. With a rate like this and such a huge audience, "Fortnite" will continue to top the charts on YouTube until another game comes along to beat it.
