With the launch of the Xbox One X right around the corner, it might be easy to forget there are actually quite a few games set to be released before that point. Admittedly, most of the upcoming titles are not exclusive to Microsoft's console, but they could be best played on their upcoming device.

Let us take a quick look at three exciting games set to be released in October, which might be worth buying.

'South Park: The Fractured But Whole'

Finally, "South Park: The Fractured but Whole" is going to be released. Hopefully that happens, as we cannot take another delay.

A followup to "South Park: The Stick of Truth," this role-playing game adds quite a few new elements to the solid foundation set by its predecessor.

There are 12 superhero classes to select from and the game allows players to choose the gender of their starting character. Set after the events of the first game, the plot is a parody of "Avengers: Civil War," with the children split into two groups depending on whether they side with Cartman's plans for a film franchise.

Fans of the series should give this a good look, especially since pre-purchasing the game delivers a copy of the original as well.

'ELEX'

A science fantasy action role-playing game developed by Piranha Bytes, known for the "Gothic" and "Risen" franchise, it is still to be seen whether "ELEX" is worthy of our time.

The gameplay videos released so far demonstrated an interesting world to explore, but the combat does seem to be rather stiff.

The combat focuses on both melee and firearms, with magic also playing a part. The open world is supposed to be huge and changes depending on the player's behavior. Although it is unlikely to stand up against some of the biggest RPGs released this generation, "ELEX" might be a solid action game.

'Assassin's Creed: Origins'

"Assassin's Creed Origins" is the standout release set for October. Previews have suggested that Ubisoft's series is due for a bit of a shake-up, with new and harder-hitting gameplay. The new setting of Ancient Egypt should be a blast to explore, especially since it is a time period most of us might not be familiar with.

The story is one with a great deal of potential as it focuses on the creation of the assassin's organization. The general mythos of the series should be receiving a pretty hefty update with "Assassin's Creed Origins." For the first time in a while, the series feels like it is worth revisiting.
