It's the buzz of the gaming world. Bluehole’s PUBG (“PlayerUnknown’s Battleground”) continues to go from strength to strength on PC, with even more stunning news this week. The online battle royale game has already reached over 1 million concurrent players on Steam.

According to GameRantt, PUBG recently hit a record peak of 1,028,275 concurrent Steam players, making it the most active game on the Steam today.

That impressive stats have already surpassed "Dota 2," which reached a 774,100 peak this week.

PlayerUknown's Battlegrounds

Developed and published by Bluehole, PUBG or “PlayerUknown’s Battlegrounds” is a multiplayer online battle royale video game for Windows and Xbox One. PUBG is an action game in which up to one hundred players fight in a battle royale, a type of large-scale last man standing deathmatch where players fight to be the last man standing. PUBG players can choose to enter the match, either solo or with a small team of up to four people. The last man or team left wins the deathmatch.

It based on previous mods that were first developed by Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene for other games using the 2000 hit film Battle Royale.

In the game, players are parachute onto an island, where they will scavenge for weapons and equipment to kill others. The game directs surviving players into tighter areas to force encounters and the last player or team standing wins the game.

Bluehole started its works on PUBG in early 2016, with plans to have a release date within a year. The game was first announced in June 2016. It made its debut for Microsoft Windows on Steam’s early access program in March 2017. The developer also plans to have a gaming console version following the full release of the Windows version.

PUBG still needs more to beat Dota 2

As mentioned earlier by GameRant, the “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” has reached an impressive 1 million concurrent users, beating almost every games on the Valve’s platform Steam. What more amazing here is that the game has been out in Steam Early Access program for less than six months only.

The multiplayer online battle royale game has reached a record peak of 1,028,275 concurrent users on Steam, beating the number of concurrent players playing for Dota 2. But it still not enough to beat the all-time gaming record by Dota 2.

Dota 2,” the Riot Games’ popular online battle arena game, has made an all-time gaming record of 1,295,114 players playing for the game, according to SteamDB.

For PUBG, it still needs 200,000 more concurrent players to truly dethrone "Dota 2" as the reigning multiplayer champion on the gaming world. But PUBG creator Brendan Greene is highly confident that the game could reach “League of Legends” levels of popularity and even beat the popular multiplayer game.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently out on PC in Early Access program. Bluehole also plans to launch an Xbox One version this year.
