The highly popular vehicular soccer simulation video game, “Rocket League,” will officially celebrate its second anniversary tomorrow. To commemorate the upcoming event, the game’s developers have now released the game’s highly awaited second-Anniversary Update, which brings with it a myriad of changes and new content to the hit title.
Big summer update
The new anniversary update is actually now live for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC players today.
Psyonix Studios revealed that the update is the biggest one to come to the title in terms of the number of changes that it brings. The update also leads the way to further content drops for the game in the months to come. Aside from laying the foundation for future updates and content, players will be getting access to a brand new arena, new decals, and a number of customization options.
Content details
The new update brings with it a brand new standard arena called “Champion’s Field.” The new open-air stage looks like it’s a little bit more square than rectangle shaped, but it is still quite an epic and huge map.
A number of brand new stylish animated decals and accessories are also featured, including the long-awaited “Rick and Morty” themed add-ons.
Fans of both the game and the hit adult cartoon television show should be quite delighted finally be able to combine two of their favorite things into one experience. The incorporation of famous third party properties into the game has been a great strategy for the developers in attracting fans to spend their money on cosmetic items through the game’s built-in microtransaction feature.
In-game alterations
A number of the elements within the game have been slightly tweaked including the addition of new buttons and the appearance of the Boost Meter during replays and during spectator mode.
Psyonix has also chosen to change some of the terms used within the game. Tire tracks are now called trails while rocket trails are now called boosts. Players also now have access to a number of customization options, including the ability to customize their car’s tire trails and even the sound of their engines. Goal explosions can also now be fully customized.
“Rocket League” currently boasts a 33 million-strong player base across the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC platforms. That number is expected to grow even larger when the Nintendo Switch version arrives later in the year.
