PC gamers looking for the perfect opportunity to invest in Virtual Reality (VR) gaming might want to take another look at the Oculus Rift. The VR headset is reportedly enjoying a significant discount from major retailers and even includes motion controllers in the bundle. The price cut is part of the company’s limited time “Summer of Rift” sale event. Consumers can avail of the bundle for $399 USD only, which includes the headset, sensors, wires, connectors, and controllers that are reportedly easy to install and start playing.

As a bonus, buyers will also receive seven VR games like “Dead & Buried,” “Dragon Front,” “Lucky’s Tale,” and “Robo Recall.”

A complete bundle

Industry analysts recall that the VR headset originally retailed for $599 USD during its launch and did not even include motion controllers. The official oculus Touch controllers started a couple of months after to the tune of $199 USD for the set that included a secondary sensor to track the peripherals within the 3D space. However, the latest discounted bundle seems like a steal with its included Oculus Rift headset and official controllers together with all the accessories to run it out-of-the-box.

Substantial discount

Consumers should note that the “Summer of Rift” bundle discount comes to a total of $200 USD off from the original price of the Oculus Rift VR headset and Oculus Touch motion controllers.

The cost reduction is, of course, a surprisingly large adjustment given that the two devices were just launched March and December of last year respectively. Users who are interested in VR gaming are encouraged to take advantage of this limited sale period.

PC requirements are no joke

Interested parties should be aware that the “Summer of Rift” sale might translate into a certain must-buy scenario for the Oculus Rift and Touch.

However, the fine print that comes with the package also requires users to have a very capable setup to run it. Suggested specs are as follows:

  • Nvidia 1060 or AMD 480 GPU.
  • Intel i5-4590 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X or better.
  • Three USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 port.

This appears to be a crucial caveat as It seems that the big discount might be offset by its PC operating requirements instead.

New version incoming

Other market analysts suspect that the attractive sale might be a ploy to sell off remaining stocks of the current model. They suspect that Oculus might have a new version that will be revealed during the company’s October event. Some speculations include a new wireless model or an upgraded one with better lenses and displays. The “Summer of Rift” sale is expected to run for the next six weeks, but there is a big chance that stocks might run out before the discount period ends. It’s hard to find a better deal for the Oculus Rift and its Oculus Touch controller that what is available now.
