“Borderlands 3” could be heading for a possible release date in late 2018. This piece of information stemmed from the latest hint dropped by 2K Games’ parent publisher, Take-Two.
Fiscal year 2019 plans
Earlier this week 2K Games and Take-Two Interactive discussed their plans for the next five years. David Ismailer, 2K’s president and Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two stated that one AAA title will be released each year along with other yearly iteration of other franchises like the NBA 2K and WWE 2K.
Take-Two expressed a positive vision for its Fiscal Year 2019, saying that it looks a lot better with the official release of Rockstar Games’ “Red Dead Redemption 2” next year.
Zelnick is expecting that the sequel to the wild west action-adventure game will be phenomenal, not only next year but in the succeeding years.
The game publisher notably raked in a whopping $1 billion plus revenue last year alone from another Rockstar Games’ insanely popular game, “GTA 5” and multiplayer mode, “GTA Online.”
But the CEO also mentioned that a huge new title from 2K Games is also scheduled to launch within the fiscal year 2019, which falls between Oct. 1, 2018, and Sep. 30, 2019. This is the part where it gets interesting for the fans of the Borderlands series and this AAA title could be none other than “Borderlands 3.”
2K’s AAA title
Putting aside any possibility of “Bioshock 4,” Zelnick could have been teasing the release date of “Borderlands 3” in his official statement.
The development of the next title was first hinted when Gearbox showed the game’s tech demo at GDC 2017 back in March.
Shortly after the GDC 2017 reveal, CEO Randy Pitchford also dropped a snapshot of himself in motion capture suit on his official Twitter account. It further teased the fans that indeed something exciting is brewing at the studio.
Development confirmed
The last Borderlands title was released in 2012 and that means, the company already has more than five years to have possibly worked on a follow-up. Reports of the next title being in the works were in fact confirmed in 2015 wherein Pitchford named the core people involved in its production.
From the looks of it, it won’t be long now for the fans to see an announcement trailer for the third game.
That is if it is coming in late 2018 at the earliest.
Perhaps, “Borderlands 3” could show up at Gamescom 2017 in August or at the PAX West 2017 in early September. Well, anything is possible, isn’t it?
