sega has had a lot of success when it came to mobile ports and emulated copies of their classic games such as "Sonic the hedgehog." Although some of its mobile games were created by third party developer, the company has now apparently seen it fit to properly release a brand new collection that will showcase their best classic games. In line with this goal, the company has now announced a brand new mobile classic video game collection called "Sega Forever," which will be made available for both iOS and Android.

The best of the best

According to Sega, the brand new app will initially include five of their best classic titles, namely the original "Sonic the Hedgehog," the beat'em classic "Comix Zone," the iconic RPG "Phantasy Star 2," the platform game "Kid Chameleon," and finally the Sega Mega Drive classic "Altered Beast."

More games to come

Apart from the five classic games, Sega also promised to release more games from its classic console lineups.

New games will apparently be added once every two weeks. Although Sega did not outline the exact games that will be coming, they did mention that the titles will be directly taken from the classic properties they had on the Mega Drive, Master System, the SG 1000, the Dreamcast, and the Sega Saturn.

Porting or emulating games from the Mega Drive and the Dreamcast may be relatively easy for the developer, but the Saturn's esoteric hardware may become an issue if Sega does plan to include games from the particular console somewhere down the line.

All for free

One of the most exciting aspects of Sega's announcement is the fact that the new app will be offered completely free for all interested gamers.

The app itself will be supported by Ads, which will be its main source of revenue. However, players may opt to remove the ads completely for a one-time fee of just $1.99. Sega has also revealed that the game will fully function even without an internet connection, regardless if players are using the paid or free version.

Additionally, Sega also revealed that the new games will be coming with the latest video game features including cloud saving, online leaderboards, achievements, challenges, and even full Bluetooth controller support for those who aren't comfortable playing the games on phones' touchscreen. The app is currently available to download on the App Store for iOS users and the Google Play Store for Android users.
