Those who have been keeping up with the latest “Overwatch” news know the Anniversary Event has been in full swing since June 8th. Unfortunately for those who have been enjoying the Double XP event, it has officially begun to wind down.
The double XP event is scheduled to come to a close on Monday, June 12th at 11:59 p.m. PT or 2:59 a.m. ET (which would technically be Tuesday, June 13th for those in the EST time zone).
The Anniversary Event
As hard as it might be to believe, the “Overwatch” double XP event is in honor of the game’s first birthday.
The event has offered players the opportunity to crack open event loot boxes with the chance to snag new emotes, legendary skins, and a number of other exciting items.
The double XP earned during the anniversary event can be applied through all of the following ways:
- Spending time in a match
- Finishing a patch
- Finishing more than one match in a row
- Being the victor of a match
- Filling a match in process
- Achieving medals
So, you just complete any of the tasks above and enjoy the double XP bonus that comes with it.
Other 'Overwatch' news
In other “Overwatch” news, the high-profile player Dafran was banned by Blizzard after the constant complaints of fellow gamers. Dafran was banned for a week from “Overwatch” and indefinitely from competitions.
The high-profile player was also removed from Team Selfless.
Game director, Jeff Kaplan, revealed the other players – and the game itself – are finished with players purposely bailing on matches when participating in competitive play. In fact, Kaplan revealed an automated system is in the works which would ban players who are found to be consistently bailing matches in competitive plays.
Kaplan did decide to give gamers a little good news to enjoy with all of the bad news floating around. Apparently, there is another skin for Lucio that was never implemented into the game. Basically, Kaplan teased that gamers may get to look forward to a new Lucio skin.
Anyone who was hoping to take advantage of the double XP bonus for the Anniversary Event is going to want to act fast as there are less than 24 hours remaining.
Furthermore, players should use Dafran’s ban and Kaplans’ news as motivation not to try to game or cheat the system. Always play a fair game of “Overwatch” or run the risk of getting booted from enjoying parts – or all – of the game for good. Using Dafran as an example for a moment, he was not banned from “Overwatch” permanently: just from competitions. The question is – can you really enjoy the game if you don’t have access to all of it?
