If you like your cocktails as much as you like your desserts like me, then why not put them together? A mudslide is pretty much what people get when they combine the two. Sort of. It's typically made by combining Vodka, coffee liqueur, Irish cream, and cream together in equal parts along with some ice in a blender. The drink is then thrown in a Martini or Hurricane glass and garnished with chocolate syrup and more cream.

While there are a few variations out there that can take the mudslide to the next level for most, my personal favorite is the Frozen mudslide that substitutes ice cream for the cream, effectively making it both a cocktail and a dessert much like a milkshake. This recipe will show you how to make your own mudslide along with some of the variations including my favorite.

For that extra bang for your buck, use Kahlua for the coffee liquor and Baileys for the Irish cream.

N.B: Mudslide is no less dangerous than your average cocktail. The blend of vodka, coffee liquor, and Irish cream can be quite the headbanger especially to those who can't hold their liquor. Drinking under legal age limit will not only potentially land the drinker jail but could also lead to harmful/fatal predicaments especially when they're behind a wheel. Small children especially shouldn't be allowed near this cocktail. Always remember to drink responsibly.

The recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1 oz Kahlua coffee liquor
  • 1 oz Baileys Irish cream
  • 1 oz cream
  • 1 cup ice
  • Chocolate syrup for swirl
  • Whipped cream and cherry for topping

Directions:

  1. Crush the ice in the blender.
  2. Combine the Vodka, Kahlua, Baileys Irish cream, and cream with the crushed ice in the blender and process until smooth.
  3. Coat the inside of the Martini or Hurricane glass with the chocolate syrup in swirls. Pour the mudslide mix into the glass and refrigerate for about10 minutes or until it starts to thicken.
  4. Serve the mudslide topped with the whipped cream and cherry.

Variations

  • Frozen - Substitute ice cream (preferably Hagan Daz) for the cream. Here is a recipe for homemade ice cream if you're interested.
  • Float - Add one ounce of butterscotch schnapps to the frozen mudslide mixture before blending.
  • Rum - Substitute rum for the vodka.
  • Espresso - Substitute a shot of espresso for the coffee liquor.
  • Soda - Add 1 oz of soda water to the mixture before blending.
  • Strawberry - Add 5 fresh/frozen strawberries to the mixture before blending.
