In a discussion among foodies about dessert, one can easily make an argument about Ice Cream being the greatest dessert in the world. There are just too many advantages to speak of here when it comes to this delightful food. It can be made available virtually everywhere, comes in a multitude of variations, is extremely delicious when made right, and has even undergone so many refinements to the point that just about anyone could make it.

That last one especially holds true since there are now a variety of simple ways to make the dessert. In fact, this recipe serves as a fine example.

However, it's not the focus of this post. Today, we have another super simple recipe for ice cream; this latest one is made from a base of Bellini. For those unfamiliar with this drink and want to know how to serve it frozen, read on.

What is a Bellini?

As already mentioned here, a Bellini is a basic cocktail that consists of a blend of white wine (preferably Prosecco) and peach puree. When prepared at a bar, the wine and puree are combined in a 2:1 ratio, then shaken with ice and served in a champagne flute glass.

Simple wine ice cream?

Given that ice cream is a highly commercial dessert and that it has already been reinvented by several cultures, the idea of a wine flavored base shouldn't seem uncommon.

In fact, wines have been used to flavor several types of desserts and confections for several years. The most recent and popular example is Mercer Dairy and its line of wine ice cream currently being sold on retail.

Although companies such as this one utilize industry standards for producing wine-flavored ice cream, they aren't necessary for a homemade substitute.

In fact, one can even part ways with conventional methods altogether for this endeavor. In the case of Bellini ice cream, only three ingredients are required: Bellini, heavy cream and a little sugar.

All a person has to do is whisk these three together in a bowl, then throw the mix into a freezer for a few hours, and out comes beautiful, refreshing wine-flavored joy.

Below is the super simple recipe to get started.

Ice Cream Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Prosecco wine
  • 1/2 cup frozen peaches
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3 tbsp white sugar
  • Strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries as needed

Directions:

  1. Put the peaches and orange peel in a blender and puree. Pour in a bowl and whisk in the wine and sugar. Whisk in the heavy cream.
  2. Pour the mixture into a plastic container that can hold up to a quart and freeze for 4 hours or until solid but smooth.
  3. Serve with fruit.
