Sometimes it is necessary for a company to voluntarily recall a product when there is suspicion of Listeria that could harm consumers. Such is the case with Garden of Light, Inc. that is doing business as Gluten Free Solutions of East Hartford, Connecticut.
The product
The product that is being voluntarily recalled is the 1.8-ounce cup of Woodstock Organic Matcha Vanilla oats that was manufactured for Blue Marble Brands by Garden of Light. The recall is for retail stores nationwide.
Users of the product are encouraged to see if they have purchased the paperboard cup with the green laminated film lid.
Look to see if the UPC Code bearing the number 0-42563-01786-6 with the sell by date is May 11, 2018 that is found on the bottom of the cup. A second product will have the best buy date code of the sell by date of June 23, 2018.
Consumers are advised to throw the products away or take them back to the place of purchase. Customers will have a choice of a full refund or an exchange for something else. Possibility of contamination
The possibility of contamination was suspected by supplier Hudson Valley Farms Inc.
who notified Garden of Light, Inc. The suspicious ingredient was thoroughly tested, but no Listeria was found. The company is recalling the product to avoid any illnesses even though none have been reported so far. Even though the products have already been taken off the market, the investigation is ongoing to find the source of the problem.
Side effects of Listeria
Listeria is very serious, and it could cause illness and in some cases, it could be fatal. Three groups of people are more at risk than others. The very young, the very old, and those with a weak immune system could be affected. Listeria may also affect healthy people, but it is not as dangerous as it could be for those in the former groups.
No matter which group of people who become affected with Listeria, the symptoms include high fevers, severe headaches, stiffness, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women should be extremely careful because Listeria could cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
Since the contaminated product has been recalled, it is unlikely that anyone has been affected. In case a person is ever affected by Listeria, over-the-counter medications can be used to eliminate the symptoms.
