After every season, Major League Baseball hands out an award for the best hitter(s) at each position from each league. One player at each position in the infield gets recognized for their offensive output while three outfielders and a designated hitter also get a Silver Slugger award for their numbers. Here are the recipients for 2020 from the American League.
SalvadorF Perez- C
After sitting out the whole 2019 season with an injury, Perez bounced back in 2020 with a .333/.353/.633 slash line with 50 hits and 11 HR in 37 games.
Jose Abreu- 1B
Abreu had an amazing season slashing .317/.370/.617 with an OPS of .987 along with 76 hits, 19 HR, and as many RBI as games played (60). He is a candidate for the AL MVP award.
D.J. LeMahieu- 2B
LeMahieu slashed .364/.421/.590 for an OPS of 1.011 with 71 hits in 50 games. He is also a candidate for MVP.
Jose Ramirez- 3B
Ramirez put up a slash line of .292/.386/.607 with an OPS of .993 and 17 HR. He's up against Abreu and LeMahieu for MVP in the American League.
Tim Anderson- SS
Anderson slashed .322/.357/.529. This is his first Silver Slugger award.
Mike Trout- OF
This is Trout's eighth Silver Slugger award in his illustrious career. This year, he slashed .281/.390/.603 with 17 HR which led the American League.
Teoscar Hernandez- OF
Hernandez had a breakout campaign slashing .289/.340/.579 with 16 HR.
Eloy Jimenez- OF
In the 2020 season, Jimenez slashed .296/.332/.559 with 14 HR and 63 hits.
Nelson Cruz- DH
Father time doesn't seem to be stopping Cruz as he slashed .303/.397/.595 with 16 HR.
