They're thin at tight end
Travis Kelce is expected to be back in time for camp and the season, but if he suffers an injury this season, his backups are woefully untested. John Lovett has been a nice story, but he played quarterback at Princeton and is learning a new position this summer. Expecting him to step into a Kelce sized void would be folly.
Mahomes knows he has things to work on
If you weren't already a fan of Patrick Mahomes, then listening to him talk about needing to work on his footwork should make you fall in love. There aren't that many players, that had the kind of season he had in 2018, that are willing to admit they have something big to work on. Mahomes gets it.
Carlos Hyde's stock is rising
While the Chiefs have named Damien Williams the starter for now, the team has been giving Hyde more of a look than people thought they would this spring and summer. He ran for over 900 yards in back-to-back seasons for San Fran before rushing for over 500 in 2018 with Cleveland and Jacksonville. That experience and a history of success has coaches and the front office giving him some long, lingering looks.
Anthony Hitchens is a name to watch
While the Chiefs defense in particular is expected to be better, why it's expected to be better is a bit of a surprise. At least when it comes to players like linebacker Anthony Hitchens. Hitchens, in his second year with KC has looked faster and more comfortable in the 4-3 offense. Head coach Andy Reid has gone on record saying he's also grown into a leadership role.
The Chris Jones saga isn't going away
Chris Jones didn't report to the Chiefs' minicamp. At this point, it's hard to believe he's going to be at training camp on the first day. The Chiefs are said to be taking a hard line with the defender and he's echoing that stance. After a season that saw him put up 15.5 sacks, to say his lack of attendance is worrisome might be an understatement.
