The next team in this series of top 10 draft picks is the Miami Heat. While previous entries went back to 1990, the Heat began to play in 1988 so all of their draft picks were considered.
In order to make the list, the player must have actually been drafted by the Heat. Only the player’s impact while with Miami is considered (Caron Butler became a two-time All-Star, but this was after he left the Heat). Where the player was drafted could make a difference, meaning if a second-round pick had about as much impact as a lottery pick, then the second round pick would be higher.
The team’s draft picks were found at Basketball Reference.
Dwayne Wade - First round, fifth overall (2003)
Dwayne's the Heat's all-time leader in most categories including points (21,556), assists (5,310), steals (1,492), and games (948), Wade also won three rings and made 13 All-Star teams with Miami.
Rony Seikaly - First round, ninth overall (1988)
The first ever draft choice that the team ever made, Seikaly averaged a double-double during his six seasons with the Heat (15.4 points, 10.4 rebounds).
Glen Rice - First round, fourth overall (1989)
Also spending six seasons with Miami, Rice averaged over 21 points a contest in three of those years.
Josh Richardson - Second round, 40th overall (2015)
Quite the find as a second round pick, Richardson averaged career-bests in scoring (16.6), rebounding (3.6), and assists (4.1) this past season.
Grant Long - Second round, 33rd overall (1988)
Another solid second round choice by Miami, Long averaged 11.6 points, seven rebounds, and 1.4 steals in his 472 games with Miami.
Sherman Douglas - Second round, 28th overall (1989)
Known as 'The General', Douglas only played two full seasons (and part of a third) with the Heat, but he was a First Team All-Rookie member in 1989-90 and posted averages of 18.5 points, 8.5 assists, and 1.7 steals in 1990-91.
Steve Smith - First round, fifth overall (1991)
In 202 career games as a member of the Heat, Smith averaged 14.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists.
Kevin Edwards - First round, 20th overall (1988)
A Second Team All-Rookie member in 1988-89, Edwards had double-digit scoring averages in each of his five years with the team.
Justise Winslow - First round, 10th overall (2015)
Last season was Winslow's best thus far as he finished with career-best averages in scoring (12.6), rebounding (5.4), assists (4.3) and field goal percentage (43.3).
Bam Adebayo - First round, 14th overall (2017)
Adebayo put together a strong sophomore season in the league last season which included 11 double-doubles in scoring and rebounding. He recently talked to CBS Miami about how life will be without Dwyane Wade as his teammate come next season.
