The Chicago Cubs took on the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night and what had been a negative trend was turned around to some degree.
David Bote continues to rake
David Bote is out to prove he deserves another shot in 2019 after finishing 2018 rather roughly. If the spring is any indication, he has indeed proven that. Bote hit his second home run of the spring and is batting .462 in the preseason.
David Bote goes OPPOOOOOOO! https://t.co/dCyCiuFFe8

Chatwood bounces back
Tyler Chatwood had what can only be described as a damaging outing his last time out. That's why it was so good to see him bounce back on Saturday. The pitcher, who is transitioning to the bullpen went for 1.2 innings and a strikeout. He allowed no hits and didn't walk anyone, and that's never bad news.
Interesting, but not unexpected, to see both Mike Montgomery and Tyler Chatwood pitching just four days after their last outing, which means each is now transitioning from stretching out to an expected bullpen role. https://t.co/3TtVqh9V3E

Hendricks struggles but bounces back
Kyle Hendricks hasn't had a great spring, but he did move forward in a good way on Saturday. He had control problems early but managed to go 3.1 innings, while allowing five hits and walking two. Despite allowing a few baserunners early, he only allowed one earned run and looked sharp as he closed out his start.

Jason Heyward's awful spring continues
Chicago Cubs fans have been hoping that yet another new hitting coach could fix Jason Heyward. It's still early in that coach's tenure, and it's only spring training, but the outfielder is having an awful spring. He went 0-for-1 on Saturday (though he did walk twice) and is hitting just .143 this spring. An OPS of .393 is easily the lowest of the Cubs regulars. By quite a lot.
Jason Heyward is HOPELESS

Ian Happ has a bit of a bounceback
Considering how poorly Happ has hit during the spring, the fact that he came up with a hit on Saturday could be good news. He's still not hitting well but here's hoping the hit can help him break out.
