Spring training is in full gear! While not much is expected out of the Detroit Tigers in 2019 by many MLB experts, I beg to differ. Last season the Tigers won 67 games – despite having half of their best players on the disabled list for months on end.
If the Tigers can stay healthy in 2019, they will be a team that gives other teams fits. Manager Ron Gardenhire will make sure of that. Here are five players that need to come up big for Detroit in 2019. If they do, this team should improve by 10-15 wins – and in the AL Central Division, you never know where that will land you.
Miguel Cabrera
This is a no-brainer. The Tigers were without the big guy for 75-percent of the 2018 season. Even if Miggy is just at 80-percent, he will give the middle of the Tigers batting order a much needed boost. Cabrera told reporters that “It has been a long time since I've been on the field and I feel good about being healthy this year. I feel I can do my job this year."
Jeimer Candelario
The candyman's potential is palpable. He didn’t play fall ball like he did the previous season and has said that he feels much more refreshed heading into camp this season.
