On Friday, December 21, a number of blockbusters led the way in theaters for total revenue earned. However, a Disney favorite is also back, as well as an action/western star. Below is a look at what's doing well as of this past Friday (December 21) at theaters.

1

'Aquaman' (Warner Bros)

The newest DC Comics solo superhero flick brings Jason Momoa as the aquatic hero who can talk to fish. It's getting mixed reviews, but good praise for Momoa as the title character. This could become DC's most successful male superhero film. It's already done well in China and has made an estimated $28 million.

2

'Bumblebee' (Paramount)

Surprisingly, the No. 2 entry has better overall review scores at Rotten Tomatoes than No. 1 or No. 3 on the list. "Bumblebee" is about the yellow car Transformer. This Transformers prequel stars Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena. It's generated $8.46 million so far from December 21 estimates.

3

'Mary Poppins Returns' (Buena Vista)

She's back! Mary Poppins hasn't dropped by with her umbrella since the original movie in 1964. Dick Van Dyke is back in this one, with Emily Blunt taking over as the title character. So far, the sequel film has generated $6.7 million in revenue.

4

'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' (Sony/Columbia)

This animated Spider-Man film is garnering plenty of praise during its run. It not only features the regular Spider-Man that many people know, but many others from the comic books. For Friday December 21, it earned $4.85 million, adding to its total.

5

'The Mule' (Warner Bros.)

The second Warner Bros. entry on the top five brings action/western star, turned director, Clint Eastwood back into the spotlight. In this film, he portrays a Korean war hero who ends up transporting drugs for a cartel and finding himself in over his head. It generated $4.25 million and is nearing $30 million in total revenue.
