An Aamir Khan flick is considered a class above the ordinary but “Thugs of Hindostan” falls far below these criteria. Though high in action, the film is handicapped by a lack of tightly knit script. "Thugs of ....." pales in comparison to the earnings made by Aamir Khan’s earlier flick “Dangal.”

1

Lack of Promotion

Amir Khan rarely promotes his films in different avenues as compared to his counterparts like Salman Khan who makes it a point to promote their films in different forums and TV shows such as Big Boss etc. This could be one of the reasons for the flick not attracting audiences as compared to his earlier flicks. The Flick also took long in the making leading to loss of interest among the audience.

2

Negative reviews

The film is garnering a mixed bag of reviews, but there is an excess of negative reviews which is forcing the audience to reconsider their resolve to see the flick.

3

Amir Khan’s character is ambiguous

Amir’s character is ambiguous and not clear-cut and can be best described as grey. His role as a Firangi does not auger well with his image and has been rejected by the audience. His actions in the flick are illogical and often borders as moronic. Worse there is a little confrontation between his character and the character of Khudabaksh played by Big B.

4

Female characters lack depth

The female lead played by Katrina and Fatima lacks depth and has little relevance in the flick. Katrina has been included only to add glamour and Fatima also has not much to do other than a couple of meaty scenes which are soon forgotten.

5

Not in line with historical events

The flick talks about the East India Officer “Clive.” However, the real Robert Clive which we have studied in History was long dead before the timeline of the movie. The English characters also hardly look English and seem to be heavily made Indian actors.
