Golden Globe 2018 Nominees: Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy

These five contenders are vying to take the honor at the 76th installment of the awards show.

The Golden Globe Awards differs from the Academy Awards show in that the Best Picture Award is split into two categories. There are the drama films and then there are the comedy and musical nominees. below is the latter of those that were nominated for the 2018 prize.


'Crazy Rich Asians'

Jon M. Chu's romantic-comedy drama movie stars Constant Wu and Henry Golding, among others. The movie follows the tale of an American reporter who goes to Singapore to meet her boyfriend's family, where she learns they are among the richest in all the land.


'The Favourite'

Yorgos Lanthimos directed this "historical period comedy-drama." Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, and Rachel Weisz are in the cast, with the latter two also up for acting awards. It looks at the reign of Queen Anne in the early 18th century, as two cousins are trying to become court favorites.


'Green Book'

Oscar winner Mahershala Ali and Oscar-nominated actor Viggo Mortensen are at the center of this 1960s deep south film. Ali is a classical and jazz pianist, who is taking a tour of the region with his driver and bodyguard Tony Vallelonga. Both actors are up for awards, as is director Peter Farrelly.


'Mary Poppins Returns'

The sequel to the 1964 classic has yet to make its way into theaters, but being up for four Golden Globe awards won't hurt its promotion one bit. That includes lead actor nominations for both Emily Blunt, as Mary Poppins, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, as cockney lamplighter, Jack.


'Vice' (2018)

This film was written and directed by Adam McKay and follows Dick Cheney as he rises to become one of the most powerful vice presidents in United States history. Christian Bale takes on the role of Cheney, with Amy Adams as his wife, Steve Carrell as Donald Rumsfeld, and Sam Rockwell as former President George W. Bush.
