Golden Globe 2018 nominees: Best Motion Picture Drama category

Five films are vying to become the winner at the 76th annual Golden Globes.

In 2018, the film "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" captured the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Drama category. Here are the five films nominated for the 2019 award.

Black Panther

Marvel's superhero films have achieved plenty of success, but not quite like this. Until "Avengers: Infinity War" came along, this one had people talking not only about how much money it made, but about how great a film it was. It now has a chance to claim the drama award as first superhero film to do so.

This one gets into the category but can also be considered a comedy. It's the latest from Spike Lee and stars Adam Driver, as well as Topher Grace, and Denzel's son, John David Washington. "BlacKkKlansman" is about an African American Colorado Springs police detective trying to bring down the local Ku Klux Klan chapter.

Bohemian Rhapsody

The biopic tells the story of Queen's lead singer Freddie Mercury and looks at the lead-up to the band's Live-Aid performance. Not only did it get nominated in this category, but Rami Malek ("Mr. Robot") is nominated for his portrayal of Mercury.

If Beale Street Could Talk

This original romantic drama tells the tale of a man wrongly charged for a crime and his wife trying to clear his name before the birth of their child. Kiki Layne, Stephen James, and Brian Tyree Henry are among the critically-acclaimed film's cast.

A Star Is Born

Bradley Cooper's first turn at directing seems like a success right about now. The film enjoyed great revenue at the box office and this latest remake of the movie is now an award nominee. Cooper and Gaga star as the musician pair that was previously played by Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in the mid-70s.
