The meeting
President Trump invited rapper Kanye West for a scheduled luncheon at the White House on Thursday (Oct 11). The pair were to discuss prison reforms, African American employment, the creation of manufacturing jobs, and gang violence in Chicago, among other things. Although they dined privately, critics have described the televised portion of the meeting as, “disgraceful,” “embarrassing,” and “cringe-worthy.”

The rapper, who recently signed a multi-million dollar deal with Starz, shared a Superman-inspired sketch of Trump and Kanye on Instagram and captioned it with his famous tagline, “get the strap.”

The rapper shared his thoughts via social media. Kanye’s friend and long-time collaborator said, “This s*** is next level...Django a** s*** Ye,” he added, “This is the most repulsive, disgraceful, embarrassing act of desperation, and auctioning off one’s soul to gain power.”

His well articulated and intelligent response to Kanye West’s “Slavery is a choice” comments on TMZ earlier this year made waves in the media. This time, he directed his response to the president himself.
Civil rights activist, Shaun King
The political commentator, who has a prominent voice in the Black Lives Matter movement is famous for using social media to oust racists and promote social causes, has on several occasions criticized the Trump-Kanye relationship. This time, saying, “This isn’t just sad or funny, it’s problematic.”
Desiigner supports the duo
The rapper of the 2016 Billboard No. 1 hit record, “Panda,” who, on several occasions cited Kanye West as one of his influences, took to Twitter to share his thoughts toward the meeting. He tweeted, “ii [sic] loved the interview with Kanye and @realdonaldtrump.”

The Los Angeles rapper also extended his support. He especially liked Kanye’s petition to the President to pardon Larry Hover, the notorious founder of the Chicago street gang, Gangster Disciples, who is currently serving 200 years for orchestrating the death of a 19 -year-old. Kanye told Trump, "There’s infinite amounts of the universe and there’s alternate universe. So it’s very important for me to get Hoover out because in an alternate universe, I am him and I have to get him free."
