Big Ten Conference Power Rankings For Week 7

The Big Ten power rankings got a little bit of a shakeup as we hit the mid-point of the season.

Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes are 6-0 after beating Indiana 49-26. Ohio State is the only undefeated team in the conference and one of just three teams still unbeaten in conference play. Until someone knocks off OSU, they're going to hold the top spot.

Michigan Wolverines

Michigan started the year with a loss to Notre Dame. Since that loss, the team has looked just as good as advertised.

Penn State Nittany Lions

The Nittany Lions were very close to being at the top of this list. They had a win in the bag against Ohio State and let it slip away. These power rankings get real interesting if Ohio State eventually loses. For now, this is about as high as PSU can get.

Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin might be leading the Big Ten West right now, but they come in fourth because of a loss to BYU and because they aren't putting teams away right now.

Iowa Hawkeyes

Iowa improved to 4-1 thanks to a 48-31 win over Minnesota. Their only loss of the season was a close one to Wisconsin.

Northwestern Wildcats

It's odd that a team that is 2-3 on the season would be this high. Northwestern gets this high because they just beat Michigan State in the Spartans' stadium. A week earlier, they almost upended Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Maryland Terapins

The Maryland Terrapins are a hard team to figure out. They have a season-opening win against Texas, the only team to beat Texas. Sitting at 1-1 in the conference, they likely aren't going to make a run at the title, but they could be a bowl team.

Michigan State Spartans

The Spartans are not having the season people expected. Now sitting at just 3-2, this was a team that was expected to compete for the Big Ten East. Now they're just looking for a bowl.

Indiana Hoosiers

The Hoosiers are an up and down team. Despite a big loss on Saturday, they are 4-2 and held strong against the Buckeyes. That lands them in the middle of the Big Ten conference power rankings.

Illinois Fighting Illini

Illinois is 3-2 despite no looking like a particularly good team for most of the year. They do have a Big Ten win, but it's against Rutgers.

Purdue Boilermakers

Purdue might be 2-3 but they have two straight wins against then 20th ranked Boston College and Nebraska in Lincoln. That win over the Huskers isn't quite as impressive as it would have been five years ago.

Minnesota Golden Gophers

The Golden Gophers are 3-2, but they are 0-2 in the Big Ten. That's why they are ahead of just two other teams in the Big Ten Power Rankings

Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Huskers are now 0-5 and 0-3 in the conference. They land just one spot out of the last place thanks to that previous place team being truly horrible.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Just how bad is Rutgers? They have a 35-7 win over Texas State. They also have a 55-14 loss to Kansas followed by a 42-13 loss to Buffalo. Buffalo! Rutgers followed a 24-17 loss to Indiana with a 38-17 loss to Illinois. This is a bad team.
