I have recently taken a look at the new films that are coming out for 2018 and I am pretty excited because there are not a lot of remakes, prequels, or sequel films. However, there are a few sequels that I am delighted to see and I am sure you will be too. With that, I have created my top-10 films to see list for 2018. Since the year just started, there are already a few films that will be releasing soon so keep your eyes peeled.
10. 'Annihilation': February 23, 2018
This film reminds me a lot of the TV show "Stranger Things." There is a secret lab out in the middle of nowhere investigating a biological phenomena.
There is a mysterious wall called the shimmer, that lets you into this otherly world. Natalie Portman plays a biologist who was in the military and is searching for the reasons as to what happened to her husband.
She and her team enter and discover beings from another world. The trailer is well done and has that Sci-Fi/thriller aspect to it. It also reminds me of the film "Alien." It's not far away, and neither is the shimmer.
9. 'Red Sparrow': March 2, 2018
I was intrigued by this film based solely on the trailer, not because Jennifer Lawrence is in it. Its a hot espionage film with a lot of action and beautiful cinematography. The use of the color red in the film ties in with the title of the film as well as the title of the Russian agents.
Now, I do believe that Lawrence is a great actress to play this part, because she is beautiful, smart, strong, and has THE poker face. I am curious as to how they brainwash the agents, and what their plan is. Only a few months until my questions are answered.
8. 'Ocean's 8': June 8, 2018
This film features such a large amazing cast that I wrote an article about it.
It's on my list because I love the style and feel of the film. The comedic genius behind a big group of great actresses trying to steal a multi-million dollar gem from Anne Hathaway will no doubt be fun to watch.
I personally would see this film with my mum, father, brother, and partner. I think that this film is for anyone to watch and enjoy.
Boys, men, women, girls, teens, parents, etc. If I am home with the family, I would take them out to see it.
7. 'A Wrinkle in Time': March 9, 2018
Just like the trailer points out that this is based on the classic novel that was read in pretty much every American elementary school, "A Wrinkle in Time" is a unique story. I am excited to see this film because the books are visual, and films add a certain depth that books can not. We get to see the whirly and trippy side of this story through the magnificent art, color, animation, costume, makeup, and special effects design in this film. Appreciate the beautiful work that was put into this film.
There is also a great cast with Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, Zach Galifianakis, Mindy Kaling, and Storm Reid.
There is still time to re-read the book for those of you have not read it in over 10 years and would like a refresher.
6. 'Tomb Raider': March 16, 2018
I have reviewed this trailer in a different article I wrote. Nonetheless, the trailer is epic looking. If you have played the "Tomb Raider" games and watched the Angelina Jolie films like myself, then you will be just as hyped as I am for this film to come out.
It has many similarities between the recent games, it looks and feels like an action-packed film while solving puzzles and temple mysteries. You still have time to watch the first films in the 2000's, but this film is an origin story. Instead, I would recommend playing the newest games "Tomb Raider" and "Rise of the Tomb Raider.
"
5. 'Super Troopers 2': April 20, 2018
The original "Super Troopers" came out in 2001, giving this one 17 years since the first. That is a super long time for a sequel, and the fact that they waited to release the film on 4-20 is just as funny. In my mind, it makes sense to have this film released on this day rather than the film "Rampage" which doesn't look as good.
Why is the Rock in every movie now? Anyway, just from the trailer this film will be making references to the first movie and has some new and fun and wackiness to see. So I would highly recommend watching the first film before you see this one.
4. 'Deadpool 2': June 1, 2018.
3. 'Incredibles 2': June 15, 2018
I had fallen in love with the first film, but even before that, I was playing the "Deadpool" game.
It follows the comic more but is just as funny. The trailer made me laugh more than ever and for all of you "Deadpool" fans out there its right up your alley. The trailer makes fun of the deceased Bob Ross but does it wonderfully. It ends with some beat bashing punches and guns, like every "Deadpool" movie should have. This will be a hilarious and action-packed film for anyone over 17.
It has been 14 years since the first "The Incredibles" was released and we finally get see the second film. I am saddened and excited to see this trailer. I wish they revealed more about the film in the trailer, but excited to see baby Jack and Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) discovering Jack's powers.
We aren't exactly sure what his powers are since we see so many from him.
I think when you are a super baby you grow into your power because the rest of the family only has one power. I guess we will have to wait and see. Hopefully, there will be more trailers to come.
2. 'Ready Player One': March 30, 2018
Now, I have already talked about my excitement for this film because of all of the pop culture references in it. This is a film for gamers and film fans to watch and have fun.
There are so many references from other films and games in this movie. There are 18-minutes long YouTube videos pointing out every single Easter egg in the two trailers. I can't even imagine all the eggs that will be in the film itself. We will have to watch and find out. Are you ready?
?
1. 'Black Panther': February 16, 2018
This is my number one film because it looks extremely beautiful and exciting. Now, I haven't watched all of the superhero films, but I did see a video on the Easter eggs in this trailer, and for all you superhero fans out there, there are quite a few. The cinematographer is amazing for this film (Rachel Morrison) who also did filming for "Dope." That's why there are a lot of vibrant colors throughout the trailer.
There are also many famous actors in this film such as Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, and Danai Gurira who plays Michonne in "The Walking Dead." Besides some great actors, the director is fantastic as well. Ryan Coogler is the director and he also directed "Creed." Just watching the trailer has got me hyped to see this film. From the cinematography, acting, and characters, to the music and story - this film will conquer all.
