Even though every day of the hot summer is a good day to celebrate with a tall cold glass of lemonade, August 20 is an exceptionally good day because it is National Lemonade Day. People around the world are celebrating with one of the most refreshing summer drinks.

About lemonade

Lemonade has been around since the 13th century. The origin of the first recipe was in the Mediterranean that made its way to Europe. Then it came to America. The drink was initially sold by street vendors not only as a refreshing beverage but also as a tonic for colds and other minor illnesses because of its high content of Vitamin C.

Lemonade has a recipe that doesn't change like most recipes do over the years. It is the same easy recipe that had made its way through centuries, and it still tastes the same. However, not too many people drink it as medicine to cure any diseases anymore.

The recipe

Lemonade is so easy to make that even children can make it. That's why a child can operate a lemonade stand without too much assistance from adults. To celebrate National Lemonade Day, you can use the same recipe that has stood the test of time.

Make your own homemade lemonade for your family on August 20 by simply dissolving two cups of sugar in one cup of hot water. Then stir in two cups of lemon juice and one gallon of cold water.

Pour into tall glasses filled with ice. For presentation, you can garnish with a lemon slice and a sprig of mint.

If you do not want to squeeze juice your own lemons, feel free to purchase a large bottle of lemon juice from your local grocery store. If you do feel like squeezing lemons for the juice, you will need about six lemons to get two cups of juice because one lemon produces about 1/3 cup of juice.

A handy tip is to microwave the lemons for ten seconds before squeezing. The results are the same as if you rolled the lemons on the countertop to release the juice.

If you want to vary your lemonade recipe, you can add fruit juices, flavors, or food coloring to get pink lemonade. You will still experience the sour taste, but the color will change from cloudy to pink.

Beyonce's 'Lemonade'

Even though Beyonce's fans know a lot about lemonade, the 35-year-old iconic singer did not invent lemonade. However, she did make millions from her "Lemonade" album that has nothing to do with the beverage itself. The album was released on April 23, 2016, and was streamed online. It has been described as the singer's boldest work and fastest selling. The first week after its release, 485,000 copies were sold.
