Following Peter Capaldi's announcement to step out from "Doctor Who" after its tenth season which concluded earlier this month, rumors are making rounds at the potential casting of Jodie Whittaker. A lot of people speculated that Jodie would play the character of Time Lord in the BBC series.
Peter Capaldi, 58, shocked his fans when he revealed that he would leave the show as he was tired of playing the titular character. The Scottish actor thought that it was the right time to move on from “Doctor Who” and look for a new path in his acting career.
Jodie Whittaker in ‘Doctor Who.'
The next star of “Doctor Who” was announced on July 22. A report by The Guardian revealed that the person stepping into the role of Time Lord was Jodie Whittaker. Is she the right choice for “Doctor Who?” We know Jodie is the first woman to take on the character, playing the 13th Doctor in the BBC show.
Jodi is not a newcomer to the entertainment world. She started her acting career from “The Storm” in 2005. She has since worked in movies, television, theater, and radio.
In 2007, she made the headlines with her incredible performance in “The Seagull.” Her resume also includes “Venus,” “Ollie Kepler's Expanding Purple World,” “Royal Wedding,” “Wish 143,” “The Kid,” “Perrier’S Bounty,” “Good Vibrations,” “The Night Watch,” and “Attack the Block."
All this is enough to prove that Jodie is not new to acting.
So, she may play Time Lord in “Doctor Who” far better than Peter Capaldi.
Chris Chibnall’s views about Whittaker
Chris Chibnall, new writer and executive producer of “Doctor Who,” said in a statement to Daily Mail that he was happy to have Jodie onboard.
After months of conversations, lists, and auditions, he welcomed Whittaker to the show and was happy with his choice.
“I always knew that Jodie Whittaker was an excellent performer. I am thrilled to have secured her for my show. I auditioned her a number of times before finalizing her for the lead role,” Chris told the news outlet.
