Ian Somerhalder appeared in “The Vampire Diaries” for eight seasons while Nina Dobrev exited the show after season 6. They were reunited during the season 8 finale episode. The show is now canceled. Her exit from the show paved the way for projects to come her way while Somerhalder, 38, received no offers both in the big and small screens.
Somerhalder’s record of acting projects showed that his last project was “The Vampire Diaries.” Now that the show has been canceled, the actor takes on a break for his wife Nikki Reed’s pregnancy. They are expecting their first child together.

Nina Dobrev who played Elena Gilbert opposite Damon Salvatore, Somerhalder’s character, is raking in projects. Her movie “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” was released in January. She has a movie which is a remake of the 1990 film starring Julia Roberts and Keifer Sutherland titled “Flatliners.” It is about a group of students that study near-death experiences but later have to experience consequences. The film is scheduled for release on September 29, 2017.
Another movie titled “Crash Pad,” with no release date announced has already started filming. She plays Hanna but no details about her character were disclosed yet.
A Peter Hutchings film also signed Nina Dobrev to play Izzy. Her character has no description yet.
Nina Dobrev’s calendar is full for a year or so but it is the other way around for her friend’s husband. Dobrev and Somerhalder have a good on-screen chemistry. Proof is that fans continue to ship them despite the actor’s marital status.
When Dobrev was still with “The Vampire Diaries,” the show’s rating was satisfactory but when she left, the rating plummeted until it was totally shelved.
There were rumors before that Somerhalder blamed Dobrev’s exit from the show as the reason for its bland performance. Coincidentally, the drop in the rating happened right after she left.
News of her return rekindled the fans’ interest in the show but Dobrev only returned for the finale to give closure to her character.

It was at the Governor's Ball during the Emmy Awards that Nina Dobrev was seen kissing Ian Somerhalder. The duo separated in May 2013.
