Former President Barack Obama, former First Lady Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks and Bruce Springsteen went on vacation together on a luxury yacht touring French Polynesia. The five friends are on a 450-foot yacht called Rising Sun that belongs to David Geffen. It is the 11th largest yacht in the world and is said to be valued at $300 million.

While on the Rising Sun, the five friends enjoyed themselves going from island to island. You might be wondering why this quintet is all together. You might be thinking they are working on a project or a charity together.

However, you would be wrong. All five of them are on vacation together. They are friends and have been close for a long time. The former president mentioned that when Tom Hanks and Bruce Springsteen were among the other artists honored at last year’s Presidential Medal of Freedom ceremony.

Of course, people knew the Obamas and Oprah are longtime friends. She supported him to help him get elected for his first term. When the group gets tired of intellectual conversations, they can listen to Springsteen play the guitar and sing. He is one of Obama favorite musicians.

The vacation

The trip with the five passengers began on Monday, April 10 and will go through the end of this week. According to Travel + Leisure, the vacation includes visiting several islands.

The celebrities have already been to Vanilla Island, Le Taha’a Island and will continue on to Bora Bora. Their voyage will end at The Brando. That's the luxury resort where Obama has been staying for the last three weeks while he is writing his White House memoirs.

The assignments

After vacation, the five will continue with their careers.

As already been stated, the former president is working on his memoir and Michelle Obama is working on hers as well while staying in Washington, D.C. It was reported that both of the books will come out at the same time. Barack's book shouldn't take as much time as the average writer because he kept a journal for the entire eight years he was in the White House.

He will tell about his experience, and his wife will tell about hers from her perspective.

Oprah Winfrey is extremely busy with her projects as well. She will tell about them when she appears for the entire hour as a guest on "The Talk" on Monday, April 17. She is producing and has a starring role in the HBO film, "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" that will premiere five days later on April 22. Bruce Springsteen is busy with his music career that he will return to after his vacation is over. The same goes for actor Tom Hanks.
