The biggest story of the day comes from the Washington Post that reports Donald Trump has ordered the Pentagon to throw a military parade in honor of his presidency. The news received such negative attention that even some on the president's favorite cable news station think it's a bad idea.
Sanders on Trump
Donald Trump has made it well-known that he's a fan of the United States Military and veterans, at least in his rhetoric.
Since the day he kicked off his campaign for president, the former host of "The Apprentice" has used the military as a talking point to help cater to conservative voters. Despite this, Trump has done little in the way of helping service men and women, and veterans. As reported by the Washington Post on Tuesday night, Trump's way to show his appreciation for the military is to hold a parade in his honor that is projected to cost millions of dollars, and it's unknown how the costs would be covered.
This issue was highlighted during the February 7 edition of "Fox & Friends," which happens to be the president's favorite cable news program.
After giving a short news brief on the parade, co-host Steve Doocy seemed fine with the idea, saying, "There are a lot of people at the Pentagon who would love to show off all the equipment."
After fellow co-host Ainsley Earhardt agreed with Doocy, co-host Brian Kilmeade didn't seem too impressed with Trump's plan. "I don't know," Kilmeade said, before admitting, "It seems like a waste of money." After throwing shade at the president, Kilmeade was directed to quickly end the segment and cut to a commercial break.
Parade details
Following the report in the Washington Post, it was later confirmed by Gen. James Mattis and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders that a parade was in the works, but that it was in the early stages.
According to the details known as of press time, the parade could costs millions of dollars, and is being planned to be held around Veterans Day. Trump made the request during a meeting with top military officials after being inspired by a similar parade held in France known as Bastille Day.
Trump's lack of history
While Donald Trump often talks about his support for the military, he doesn't have much personal experience in the area. Trump has widely been criticized for obtaining five deferments to avoid serving in the Vietnam War, with one being a controversial medical exemption for alleged bone spurs.
