Global warming is playing havoc with canada. Environment and Climate Change Canada has revealed this finding in a report that has been created by a select group of government scientists and academics. They have painted a grim picture and have not minced words when they said that the country is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world. In short, it is sitting on the edge of a precipice and it is necessary to go in for drastic action in order to reverse the trend.

The Guardian quotes an official of the agency as saying - “The science is clear – Canada’s climate is warming more rapidly than the global average, and this level of warming effectively cannot be changed.” The report cautions that urgent action to arrest global warming can only solve the problem.

Otherwise, Canada could experience an increase in the frequency of deadly heatwaves and heavy rainstorms.

Experts have revealed figures

People normally refer to global warming as a normal phenomenon of today. They know that it is the effect of greenhouse gas generated from fossil fuels. This can be offset by embracing Renewable Energy like electricity, solar energy, and wind power. The experts have now come up with figures to emphasize the point. It seems in Canada, global temperatures have increased by 1.7C since 1948 while the global average is 0.8C. This works out to be more than double the global average. The situation is worse in the Arctic where the rate is 2.3C.

The country must realize the importance of keeping global warning on a leash.

The Guardian says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has evolved a national climate strategy and committed to cut carbon emissions by 200m tonnes by 2030. This will be through a federally mandated carbon tax apart from closing down coal-fired plants. Western Canada has already experienced forest fires and there could be climatic disturbances like heatwaves, droughts and more forest fires.

There could also be possibilities of excess rainfall leading to flooding. All of these have links to climate change and anyone who ignores the signs stand to lose.

The blame is on humans

According to Sky News, a recent study by Environment and Climate Change Canada reports that the country is warming faster than the rest of the world largely because of human activities.

The study finds a nearly two-fold increase in temperatures in Canada compared with the rest of the world. The study has also cautioned that many of the issues were now irreversible Catherine McKenna is Canada's minister of environment and climate change. She agrees that climate change is real and Canadians are feeling its impacts. In her opinion, people must tackle global warming head-on to ensure a better future for the next generation.
