Many people might not believe that a thing like Marital Rape is possible, but one woman knows that it is after she discovered incriminating video footage on her Husband’s cellphone of him repeatedly raping and sexually abusing her while she slept.

Husband leaves his cellphone behind one day when heading to work

While the woman in question believed she had a normal and healthy relationship with her husband, that all changed one day when he forgot to take his cellphone with him to work. As reported by the Telegraph, the Wife picked up the cellphone and decided to explore, leading her to discovering an app she had never seen before called Video Locker.

Initially she had problems accessing the app, but when she finally did access it, she was shocked to discover several videos showing her husband having sexual relations with her while she slept. She did believe that the occurrences happened after she had been drinking alcohol. The woman said that in some incidences, he had zoomed in to capture the graphic rape footage in more detail.

Man hands himself in to police after wife’s discovery of marital rape

When the woman phoned her husband to confront him over her discovery, he handed himself in to police and is now facing nine years in jail. When the matter was heard in the Newcastle Crown Court, the husband, in his thirties, pleaded guilty to charges of rape, assault by penetration, attempted rape, and sexual assault.

In her statement to the court, the traumatized woman said that what her husband had done had left her life ruined and she was struggling to come to terms with his actions. Judging from the dates on the various videos, the abuse had started in September last year, but the wife only discovered the marital rape videos in March 2017.

According to news.com.au, she said in her statement that she would never have thought her husband would be capable of doing something like this and that he had completely fooled her. She added that she never wants to see her husband again as she struggles with the shock and loss of trust the videos have brought to her.

The act of marital rape is a crime in the U.K.

The videos, which ran between 30 second and two minutes, displayed a different incidence of the husband raping or abusing his wife, and all the footage has since been destroyed. As reported by the Telegraph, the couple, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been married for over 10 years and shared children together. Laws were reportedly changed in the U.K. 26 years ago to make marital rape a crime.
