This is our second last set of our ‘First 12 Days of Donald Trump’ series, and there have been many revelations about Trump’s character and action while being in the office. This article will cover Day 7 to Day 9, which constituted of a 20% tax on imports from Mexico and this would be the main source of funding for The Wall. Donald Trump also made some statement regarding the apparent homicides in a state, without checking the facts.
Check them out below:
Day 7: 26th January 2017
On day seventh, Trump said that he has determined to pay for the U.S.-Mexico wall by imposing a 20% tax on all imports from Mexico.
In a chain reaction to this, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto canceled his upcoming meeting with President Trump.
Donald Trump also falsely told Republican lawmakers in Philadelphia that homicides in the city are terribly increasing which didn’t go well with all the available facts. After this statement, thousands of people protested against his visit, on the streets.
Along with all this, the State Department’s entire senior administrative team decided to resign from their position.
Day 8: 27th January 2017
President Trump and British Prime Minister Theresa May held a press conference at the White House, where Theresa May said that during her meeting with the President, Trump assured her that he is “100% behind NATO”, which is entirely opposite to his stance during the election campaign.
Two executive orders on immigration were signed according to which entry of all refugees in the United States would be stopped for the next 120 days. It also blocks the entry into the United States for next 90 days for citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries: Syria, Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Yemen, Libya, and Sudan. However, there are also some major key points in these executive orders.
There is an exception for some particular kinds of refugees; the U.S. would allow members of religious minorities during the 120-day ban and prioritize them there after. This exception alone makes this ban to be against a specific religion, i.e. Muslims.
Along with this, Trump signed another executive action through which the government would provide increased resources for the U.S.
Military.
The March for Life took place in Washington, D.C. which was first started in the year 1974. Vice President Mike Pence addressed the anti-abortion march and said: “life is winning.”
Day 9: 28th January 2017
President Trump on his 9th day in the office ordered the Pentagon and Secretary of Defence James Mattis to plan a strategy to defeat the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL. He had also given them a timeline of 30 days to draft the plan of the action.
Trump signed another executive order through which Trump’s officials would never be able to campaign or lobby for any foreign government.
After the immigration and travel ban, President Donald Trump came under a lot of speculation from the media which was not at all good for his reputation.
But then, we’ve already noticed that Trump does not care about his reputation among the people, which is good as well as a bad thing.
Islamic State (IS) that are the major face of terrorism in the world, as of now, have considered the ban a blessing as it totally supports their statement on how West considers them all terrorists and against them.
