Cupertino-based Apple has been getting all the buzz and attention in the tablet market, thanks to its vast collection of tablet-optimized apps. But archrival Samsung is trying to steal the spotlight with its new Galaxy Tab S4 tablet. The new tablet is expected to give Samsung a new weapon its struggle for supremacy in the hotly contested tablet market.

According to The Verge, Samsung announced its new Galaxy Tab S4 tablet at a small press gathering in Manhattan, New York. The Korean tech giant has overhauled its tablet to better compete with archrival Apple, whose iPad tablet has completely dominated the market.

The new tablet marries the easy touch control and mobility of a tablet with the power and productivity of a PC. The result of this fusion is a whole new 2-in1 productivity tablet.

What the new tablet will bring to the table

As mentioned earlier, the new Galaxy Tab S4 features a crystal clear 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display (2560x1600) and a thickness of just 7.1mm or .28 inches. It has a 13-megapixel camera located at the back of the tablet and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

However, this new tablet features a much slimmer bezel, leaving no room for a fingerprint sensor. But wait Samsung got something new here. Instead of a fingerprint sensor, the company has decided to use an integrated iris scanner, located in the front-facing camera.

In terms of connectivity, the new tablet is fully-equipped and well-armed. Users get a USB-C port for charging and data transfer needs, a microSD slot, headphone jack, a pin-connector for the keyboard, and four speakers on board with Dolby Atmos support.

The new Galaxy Tab S4 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and is powered by a last-gen Snapdragon 835 processor.

It boasts a whopping 4 GB of RAM along with the optional 64 GB or 256 GB of internal storage space, which also expandable via a memory card. Powering this new tablet is a 7,300 mAh battery pack, which the company claims will be going to get users up to 16 hours of battery life.

As expected, Samsung also included the innovative S Pen to cater for the IT professionals and businesses.

But the biggest addition to this new tablet is the much-talked Samsung DeX, which allows users to have a PC-like experience. This technology will allow the users to work on multiple desktop-style windows, providing users a huge productivity boost.

As for the pricing and availability, the new tablet will be made available in two options, the 64GB version (for $650) and the much bigger 256 GB version ($750). It will come in two colors, the black and white options. The company is accepting pre-order now and will start shipping on August 10. In addition, there’s also a model with 4G LTE connectivity, which will be made available later this year.
