But there is no sign that device will release in 2017 and it is rumored that company has delayed the launch of the smartphone. According to Neowin, the Surface Phone is now scheduled to launch in 2018. Microsoft has not confirmed the exact date of the launch. It is worth noting that Google has entered the flagship (top-end) smartphone market last year while Microsoft doesn't have any top-end phone in the market right now. The company is now focusing on Surface Phone to enter the highly competitive market.

Microsoft Surface Phone is heavily speculated to feature cutting-edge specs and feature. On the design front, the flagship could mark a foldable design. It means that the device can be folded in two. The device will be water and dust resistant. The design will be first of its kind. The phone will reportedly focus on pen and digital-ink functionality. The smartphone is expected to run on Microsoft’s CShell adaptable Windows 10 user interface and Windows Core OS. Earlier there were rumors that phone could feature Windows 10 Mobile, which is code-named Andromeda.
The key highlight of the phone is expected to be its 3D dual-lens camera.
In terms of security, Microsoft's upcoming phone could mark facial recognition feature. Notably, it is featured on the Apple devices including iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. Phone might come up with 8GB RAM and 256 GB internal memory.

Forbes reported in November 2016 that Satya Nadella is in no hurry to launch the phone.
Nadella referred to an interview where the company indicated it wants to build an ultimate smartphone. According to WindowsLatest, the prototypes are being tested, including the tablet version of the Phone. The tablet version might be called Surface Note. The report further suggests that the tablet version might sport an edge-to-edge or bezel-less screen, with aluminum sides.

The notable competitors of the phone will be latest iPhone series smartphones, Galaxy Note and Galaxy S series smartphones and the Google's Pixel series devices.
