Google has high hopes for its next generation Pixel smartphones, namely Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The search engine giant seems all set to reveal its latest mobile devices on October 4.
The Pixel smartphones are the tech company’s way of joining the hyper-competitive high-end handset market. After making a name for itself in the budget mobile device industry with its Nexus line of handsets, the Pixel devices were the first attempts by Google at making top-notch smartphones with premium price tags. The company’s first-gen Pixel devices were well-received by smartphone enthusiasts and critics.
However, for the upcoming Google Pixel 2, the handset’s latest leak suggests that it could come along with an incredibly outdated design. SlashLeaks (via Trusted Reviews) showcased the smaller variant’s recent image leaks, which appears to be designed with huge bezels. The image seems to point out that the smaller variant will look disappointing compared to its rivals, such as Samsung’s Galaxy S8 as well as the LG G6 Android smartphone.
Nonetheless, the recent image leak appears to indicate that the Pixel 2 XL smartphone will have a similar design as current premium handsets on the market, such as the recently launched Galaxy Note 8 and Apple iPhone 8. The mobile device will arrive with thin bezels on the top and bottom.
The sides of the smartphone are almost bezel-less.
Specs of the smartphones
While the smaller Pixel variant could practically have an outdated design, the larger model will be quite a stunner. Regardless of the appearance of Google’s next-gen Pixel smartphones, the mobile devices are expected to arrive with the best internals that the handset industry currently has to offer.
The smartphones will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 system on chip (SoC), paired with a 4GB of RAM.
The smaller variant will feature a 5-inch QHD display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, while the larger model will feature a 6-inch full-HD screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9. According to Phandroid, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will come along with an IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, which would put the mobile devices on par with the 2017 iPhones.
Smartphones' configurations
Google is expected to ditch the headphone jack to pave way for the USB-C port and the stereo speakers. The devices will run on the Android 8.0 Oreo mobile operating system out of the box. The smartphones will be available in two configurations: a 64GB and a 128GB.
