Xiaomi is just hours away from unveiling two of its latest smartphones – Mi Note 3 and Mi Mix 2. As far as Mi Note 3 is concerned, the handset will be available in limited markets. Conversely, Mi Mix 2 is Xiaomi’s high-end offering and will compete with Apple’s iPhone 8. The company is launching Mix 2 in the U.S. as iPhone 8's competitor.
Display and design details
Philippe Starck, one of the well-known smartphone designers, has been in charge of the Mi Mix 2 design. The company also confirmed that its flagship offering is going to have a bezel-less front panel.
According to a report by IBTimes, the handset will include a ninety-three percent body-to-screen ratio. This is roughly two percent more than its predecessor.
The smartphone will be built using a mixture of ceramic and metal and its rear panel will feature a dual camera setup. Mix 2 is speculated to come with a 6.4-inch QHD display. The Note 3, is expected to have a 5.7-inch AMOLED curved QHD display with 2,560 x 1,440 pixels resolution. The AMOLED display technology has apparently been supplied by Samsung. The handset is built using a mixture of metal and aluminum and its rear panel packs a dual camera setup.
Performance, storage, and camera
Both the smartphones are expected to run on Android Nougat 7.1.1 OS with Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 skin on top.
They will apparently be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, with 6GB of RAM. Xiaomi is expected to offer three storage options namely 64GB, 128GB and 256GB of ROM. The Mi Mix 2 will have a 19-megapixel front sensor with Sony’s Motion Eye technology. The sensors on its rear panel are not known yet.
Mi Note 3, will come with a dual rear camera setup with a 12-megapixel wide angle sensor and a 12-megapixels telephoto sensor.
This will be complemented by different settings like Bokeh, 10x Digital Zoom, 2X Lossless Zoom, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and others. In the battery department, Mix 2 will house a 4,400mAh battery with Quick Charging technology and Mi Note 3 will house a 3,500mAh battery.
Price and availability
The smartphones are expected to hit the Chinese market first, followed by an international debut including the U.S.
Mi Mix 2 might fall in the price range of $615 and $771 (for the high-end model). It will be available in Black and White color variants. The Mi Note 3 will be available in the price range of $617. These are not confirmed prices at this time.
