Samsung is just done with the Galaxy Note 8 launch but rumors about the smartphone maker’s next-gen flagship phone, possibly dubbed the Samsung Galaxy S9, have started pouring in already. A lot of reports have surfaced online which lists Samsung Galaxy S9’s possible specs, release date, and pricing information. The premium range Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus handsets, which were launched in March this year, were very well received by smartphone users. The devices are likely to get updated to Google’s latest Android 8.0 Oreo very soon.

Release in January 2018 likely

According to a report from Android Headlines, citing an insider source, the Galaxy S8 successor, internally code named “Star,” is likely to be announced at the end of January 2018 and will be made available in mid-February.

The source has claimed that the company has started the Galaxy S9 production work three to four months earlier than expected. This is the reason why the South Korean tech giant might launch the handset two months ahead of schedule.

Possible specs and features

According to Recombu, Samsung has already begun working with chipmaker Qualcomm to develop a new Snapdragon 845 processor. It is expected to make its way to the upcoming Galaxy S9’s specs list.

Additionally, there is the Google Android 8.0 Oreo operating software and 4GB of RAM.

The KGI Securities' analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a good track record of obtaining information about new and upcoming devices, has claimed that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone will feature a dual camera setup. This will be similar to the one found on the recently launched Galaxy Note 8.

However, not much information about the dual camera specifications was provided by the analyst. The Galaxy Note 8 uses two 12 megapixel sensors for its rear camera.

Kuo also suggested that the smartphone maker has reportedly joined hands with Himax and Egis to develop the under-display fingerprint scanner for the next-generation Galaxy Note 9 phablet.

Among other specs, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to share a couple of features with its predecessor, Galaxy S8. These include an infinity bezel-less OLED display, 4 GB of RAM and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Recently, the Korean Intellectual Property Rights Information Service approved a patent which was filed by Samsung in May 2016. The patent features a smartphone design with a cutout at the top of the display to house the cameras, speaker, and sensors. Notably, the next-generation Apple iPhone version, possibly dubbed the iPhone 8, is expected to flaunt a similar design. It is also rumored that the 2018 Samsung smartphone could feature a 'MotoMod' style modular design.
