Oneplus hasn’t really been making a lot of headlines after they introduced their 2017 flagship. The company is back in the news again. According to a report by Tech Advisor, the firm has sent invites for an event scheduled to be held on September 19 in Paris. It’s simply a save-the-date kind of an invite and thus, not much can be known about what they plan on doing.

A new OnePlus 5 with all new design

According to a report by Android Headlines, the invite also specifies that the Chinese giant is collaborating with a Paris-based design firm, De Castelbajac.

The company which is owned by popular stylist, Jean-Charles is rumored to foray into the electronic gadgets industry. They will probably begin designing a wide variety of accessories and gadgets. OnePlus is believed to be helping Jean-Charles De Castalbajac with this initiative. The joint venture is going to be called, “Collection.” Unfortunately, not a lot has been known about the initiative. If OnePlus is planning on entering the luxury segment, then it will contradict with the brand image. They are primarily known to manufacture high-end products that are available for an affordable price. But knowing Jean-Charles De’s reputation in the market, it doesn’t seem that the products will be anywhere close to being “affordable.” Notably, OnePlus 5 also been praised for its sleek design.

OnePlus collaboration

The invite further reads that the event is going to be the kind, “when the style meets its machine, one night in September in Paris.” This has led many to believe that there might be a new OnePlus 5 variant in the offing. They did the same last year as well. After introducing OnePlus 3 in the first half of 2016, they went on to introduce OnePlus 3T in the second half.

In fact, they even launched a Midnight Black version of the smartphone (Colette partnership). The same is expected to be carried out this time as well. It remains to be seen whether it falls in the affordable category. In terms of specifications, not much is expected to change in the (alleged) upcoming device. There are chances that the handset will come running on Oreo right out of the box.

It is most likely that they will be limited by nature.

Jean-Charles De Castalbajac

Coming back to Jean-Charles De Castalbajac, the French designer has collaborated with Samsung in the past. Similarly, many other luxury fashion brands have collaborated with gadget manufacturers for this purpose. It remains to be seen whether it falls in the affordable category.
