After several months of leaks, speculations, and rumors, Samsung announced the Galaxy S8's more rugged version, dubbed the Galaxy S8 Active. The new mobile device will be up for grabs for $850 starting August 11, and the pre-order of the smartphone starts on August 8.

Samsung’s rugged version of its 2017 flagship smartphone will be exclusive to AT&T in the U.S. for a limited time. However, according to Business Insider, AT&T will offer a great deal on the smartphone. The telecommunications company made it known via a press release that tech fans can get the device for only $28.34 per month on a 30-month payment plan.

AT&T will also offer the mobile device with a host of additions deals, which include a Samsung Gear S3 for $49.99 or a Gear S2 for 99 cents with the purchase of the handset on AT&T Next. Also, there's a $200 credit for a trade-in and the purchase of the mobile device.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will be available in two color options, Titanium Gold and Meteor Gray. Instead of the 2017 flagship smartphone’s all-glass design, the Active model will come along with a military-grade polycarbonate as well as a metal frame and a bumper to strengthen the device from shatter, water and dust.

In the process of making the mobile device tougher, the South Korean tech titan removed Galaxy S8’s edge-to-edge Infinity display.

Nonetheless, The Inquirer reported that the Active model’s 5.8-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD display retains the 18:5:9 aspect ratio, alongside the Gorilla Glass 5.

President and CEO of Samsung Electronics North America, Tim Baxter, stated that they designed the Galaxy S8 Active with tested durability to address tech fans’ needs who want a more rugged smartphone for their lifestyle.

Specs of the smartphone

The mobile device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 system on chip (SoC), coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage, expandable up to 256GB through a microSD card. The Galaxy S8 Active smartphone also has a 4,000mAh battery, which is bigger compared to S8’s 3,000mAh battery. The mobile device is also equipped with a compass, flashlight, barometer, a dedicated Bixby button and the tech company’s defence-grade Knox security platform.

Camera feature of the device

On the camera front, the smartphone comes along with a 12MP rear dual-pixel camera, and the front camera boasts 8MP. Both front and back cameras are packed with an f/1.7 aperture.
