NVIDIA is planning to join forces with Lenovo yet again. NVIDIA confirmed that its budget-friendly GeForce 1040 mobile GPU would be integrated with Lenovo’s IdeaPad 320S. The offering by Lenovo is expected to fall in the $699 to $799 price range. The European version will likely be priced higher. This will make the laptop manufacturer the first OEM to include NVIDIA’s GPU.
The specs of the device
According to a report by Segment Next, the IdeaPad 320S laptop features Intel Core’s i5-8250U CPU to go along with GeForce 1040 GPU. On the storage front, the device packs 8GB of DDR4-2400 RAM along with 256GB of NVMe SSD.
Lenovo has included 15.6-inch IPS display with 1080 pixels with it. Connectivity-wise, the product includes 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, one USB 2.0 Type-A, one USB 3.1 Type-A, one USB 3.1 Type-C, one HDMI, a simplistic-looking mic and an expensive speaker port. The IdeaPad 320S features 14.28 x 9.92 x 0.78mm regarding dimensions and weighs roughly around 4.2 pounds.
An entry-level processing card
Notebook Check has described the latest lineup as being an entry-level processing card. The company suggests that it is only targeted towards the laptop market. By the amount of power it can output, it doesn’t appear that it will remain limited to laptops. Numerous other budget-friendly products require power assistance by such cards.
Moreover, NVIDIA’s GTX collection enjoys a reliable reputation.
Other cards included in the GTX series are the GTX 1040 and GTX 1050. The high-end GTX 1050 features 5SM units. At the same time, mobile GTX 1030 features three-notches down 3SM units. By this, it can be assumed that GTX 1040 packs 4SM units. The collection is expected to give NVIDIA’s GTX 950M, which are prevalent in most laptops these days, a tough time.
It remains to be seen whether GTX 1030 remains exclusive to Lenovo-branded laptops. Meanwhile, Intel recently launched its 8th-generation CPUs.
This makes laptops powered with 6th and 7th generation CPUs sound old. NVIDIA introduced MX150 GPU back in May this year. At that time, it was assumed that MX150 would be NVIDIA’s flagship mobile GPU offering.
However, that stands corrected with GTX 1030’s entry in the market. GTX 1030 might be an extension of the company’s MX150 offering. Nvidia has enjoyed huge success in the GPU market and the company is hoping it to continue its run.
